Lifeguarding

Please read this page before registering for a lifeguarding course

This course will certify you in Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR & AED for the Professional Rescuer through the American Red Cross for two years from the completion date.

All water skills will be held in our outdoor pools at the Student Aquatic Center. Classroom portions will be held inside Bourgeois Hall.

All lifeguarding courses are offered in a Blended Learning format meaning that you will have self-guided instruction at home through your computer followed by in-person, hands-on training to complete your certification. There are approximately 8 hours of "homework" for you to complete on your own before practicing and testing the skills you have learned. In-person training will total approximately 18 hours and will be held over one weeend. This time includes the final written exams and skill test out procedures (review courses will require less time to complete).

We will issue course links to all participants immediately following the Prerequisite Skills Evaluation. Participants will have one week to complete their assignments at home before taking part in skills practice with us. If you have not completed your online assignments before the listed start date of class you will not be permitted to participate in this course.

A $50, non-refundable deposit is required for all lifeguarding participants. The deposit must be paid at the time of your scheduled Prerequisite Skills Evaluation for your lifeguarding course. The deposit will be applied to your course fee when you successfully complete our course. Course payment will not be accepted until you have taken and passed your final exam and skills scenarios.
