Lifeguarding

Please read this page before registering for a lifeguarding course

This course will certify you in Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR & AED for the Professional Rescuer through the American Red Cross for two years from the completion date.

All water skills will be held in our outdoor pools at the Student Aquatic Center. Classroom portions will be held inside Bourgeois Hall.

All lifeguarding courses are offered in a Blended Learning format meaning that you will have self-guided instruction at home through your computer followed by in-person, hands-on training to complete your certification. There are approximately 8 hours of "homework" for you to complete on your own before practicing and testing the skills you have learned. In-person training will total approximately 15 hours and will be spread across three days - Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, this time includes the final written exams and skill test out procedures (review courses will require less time to complete).

We will issue course links to all participants immediately following the Prerequisite Skills Evaluation. Participants will have one week to complete their assignments at home before taking part in skill practice with us. If you have not completed your online assignments before the listed start date of class you will not be permitted to participate in this course.

Deposits are now required for all lifeguarding participants, both full and review course participants. We now require at $50, non-refundable deposit for all lifeguard course registrations. This deposit will be applied to your course fee if you successfully complete our course and must be paid at the time of your scheduled Prerequisite Skills Evaluation for your lifeguarding course. Course payment will not be accepted until you have taken and passed your final exam and skills scenarios.
